“Understanding the value of product concepts is difficult without something tangible to evaluate. Prototyping puts designs into tangible concepts for the common focus-group to understand.
We will create prototypes for use as artifacts to research a new product’s value assumptions. The type and fidelity of prototypes we construct vary on a project-to-project basis but can range from low-fidelity paper prototypes to functional applications.
We create interactive prototypes to illustrate how a design will function, communicate, and feel. Prototypes are great for showing the proposed design on the target platforms both in design reviews with the product team and in evaluative research sessions with target users.
The ultimate goal of the prototypes we create is to answer unknown questions about a product before full-scale development is conducted. These questions can include those on user perception of features and on product development feasibility. Because of this, our prototyping services are often offered in conjunction with our research services.
We build concept prototypes earlier on in the design process to more detailed prototypes later in the design process. With earlier-stage prototypes, we may use static data and lower fidelity design artifacts to communicate a concept. With later-stage prototypes, we may build them to have dynamic data and look and act much like the final product.
We find prototypes are often the best and most efficient way for the design team to iterate on a product design in an evidence-driven design approach like we employ at Blink.
